Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Wednesday, October 4, 2017, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill S-232, An Act respecting Canadian Jewish Heritage Month.

The Committee commenced its clause-by-clause study of the Bill.

Pursuant to Standing Order 75(1), consideration of Clause 1, Short Title, and Preamble was postponed.

The Chair called Clause 2.

Clause 2 carried.

Clause 1, Short Title, carried.

The Preamble carried.

The Title carried.

The Bill carried.

ORDERED, — That the Chair report the Bill to the House.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Monday, November 6, 2017, the Committee commenced consideration of Bill S-236, An Act to recognize Charlottetown as the birthplace of Confederation.

Hon. Diane Griffin and Hon. Wayne Easter, by videoconference from Washington, D.C., made statements and answered questions.

The Committee commenced its clause-by-clause study of the Bill.

Pursuant to Standing Order 75(1), consideration of Clause 1, Short Title, and Preamble was postponed.

The Chair called Clause 2.

Clause 2 carried.

On new Clause 2.1,

Pierre Nantel moved, — That Bill S-236 be amended by adding after line 4 on page 2 the following new clause:

“2.1 This place known as ‘Prince Edward Island’ is recognized as traditional and unceded territory, known as Epekwitk, of the Mi’kmaq First Nation.”

Debate arose thereon.

The question was put on the amendment of Pierre Nantel and it was negatived, by a show of hands: YEAS: 2; NAYS: 5.

Clause 3 carried.

Clause 1, Short Title, carried.

The Preamble carried.

The Title carried.

The Bill carried.

ORDERED, — That the Chair report the Bill to the House.

At 5:40 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:41 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

At 5:46 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
