The Standing Committee on the Status of Women met in a televised videoconference session at 11:03 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, the Hon. Hedy Fry, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Sylvie Boucher, Ray Boughen, Nicole Demers, Luc Desnoyers, Hon. Hedy Fry, Nina Grewal, Irene Mathyssen, Hon. Anita Neville, Tilly O'Neill-Gordon and Michelle Simson.

 

Acting Members present: Merv Tweed for Dona Cadman and Lise Zarac for Hon. Anita Neville.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Havi Echenberg, Analyst; Laura Munn-Rivard, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade: David Angell, Director General, International Organizations, Human Rights and Democracy Bureau; Elissa Golberg, Director General, Stabilization and Reconstruction Task Force Secretariat; Jamieson Weetman, Deputy Director, West and Central Africa Relations. High Commission of Canada to India: Jim Nickel, Deputy High Commissioner.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, October 7, 2010, the Committee resumed its study on language changes at the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade.
 

David Angell, Elissa Golberg, Jamieson Weetman and Jim Nickel, by videoconference from New Delhi, India, answered questions.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

The Committee resumed consideration of the motion of Anita Neville, — That the Committee recommend that the government conduct a gender audit of all federal funding of sport, including Sport Canada funding programs, funding of infrastructure projects by Infrastructure Canada, as well as contributions to international athletic competitions hosted in Canada, to ensure that funding is being distributed on an equitable basis;

That the conclusions of this audit be made publicly available and tabled in the House of Commons; and

That this motion be reported to the House.

 

It was agreed, — That the debate be now adjourned.

 

At 1:02 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
