The Standing Committee on the Status of Women met in camera at 11:05 a.m. this day, in Room 7-52, 131 Queen Street, the Vice-Chair, Tilly O'Neill-Gordon, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Ray Boughen, Nicole Demers, Luc Desnoyers, Nina Grewal, Irene Mathyssen, Hon. Anita Neville, Tilly O'Neill-Gordon and Michelle Simson.

 

Acting Members present: Sukh Dhaliwal for Hon. Hedy Fry, Ben Lobb for Sylvie Boucher and Bruce Stanton for Dona Cadman.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Havi Echenberg, Analyst; Laura Munn-Rivard, Analyst.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, October 5, 2010, the Committee resumed its study of the cancellation of the mandatory long form census and its impact on women's equality in Canada.
 

The Committee resumed consideration of a draft report.

 

It was agreed, — That the Clerk and the Analyst provide to the Committee the testimony that will be added to the draft report on the cancellation of the mandatory long form census and its impact on women's equality in Canada.

 

It was agreed, — That the draft report, as amended, be adopted.

 

It was agreed, — That the report be entitled: "Changing the Long-Form Census - Its Impact on Women’s Equality in Canada".

 

It was agreed, — That the Chair, Clerk and analysts be authorized to make such grammatical and editorial changes as may be necessary without changing the substance of the report.

 

ORDERED, — That the Chair present the report to the House.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee append to its report a supplementary opinion from the member of the New Democratic Party provided that it is no more than two (2) pages in length (font = 12; line spacing = 1.5) and that the supplementary opinion be submitted electronically to the Clerk of the Committee in both official languages, no later than 10:00 a.m., on Tuesday, February 15, 2011.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee append to its report a dissenting opinion from members of the Conservative Party provided that it is no more than three (3) pages in length (font = 12; line spacing = 1.5) and that the dissenting opinion be submitted electronically to the Clerk of the Committee in both official languages, no later than 10:00 a.m., on Tuesday, February 15, 2011.

 

It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 109, the Committee request that the Government table a comprehensive response to the report.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee invite the Minister for Status of Women and officials from Status of Women Canada to appear before the Committee prior to the date required to report back to the House, in order to discuss the Supplementary Estimates (C), 2010-2011.

 

At 12:08 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
