The Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met at 9:00 a.m. this day, in Room 536, Wellington Building, the Chair, Gerald Keddy, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Raynald Blais, Hon. Gerry Byrne, John Cummins, Randy Kamp, Gerald Keddy, James Lunney, Hon. Lawrence MacAulay, Fabian Manning, Bill Matthews, Jean-Yves Roy and Peter Stoffer.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: François Côté, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: As individuals: Frank Kwak; Marvin L. Rosenau.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on May 18, 2006, the Committee began its study of Gravel extraction and enforcement in the Fraser River.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

On motion of Peter Stoffer, it was agreed, — That Jim Wild and Paul Sprout appear as part of the Department of Fisheries and Oceans officals on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 regarding Gravel extraction and enforcement in the Fraser River.

 

On motion of John Cummins, it was agreed, — That two witnesses, whose names shall be provided by Mr. Cummins be invited to appear on Thursday, June 8, 2006 for one hour in relation to the Herring spawn on kelp fishery.

 

On motion of John Cummins, it was agreed, — That a budget for the Committee's study of the Herring spawn on kelp fishery in the amount of $6400 for the period of June 1, 2006 to June 30, 2006, be adopted.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on May 18, 2006, the Committee resumed its study of Gravel extraction and enforcement in the Fraser River.
 

The witnesses answered questions.

 

At 10:51 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
