The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development met at 3:31 p.m. this day, in Room 362, East Block, the Chair, Kevin Sorenson, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Diane Bourgeois, Peter Goldring, Hon. Keith Martin, Alexa McDonough, Deepak Obhrai, Bernard Patry, Kevin Sorenson, Peter Van Loan and Hon. Bryon Wilfert.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Navdeep Bains for Hon. Albina Guarnieri, Vivian Barbot for Francine Lalonde and Laurie Hawn for Bill Casey.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Gerald Schmitz, Principal.

 

Appearing: Hon. Peter MacKay, Minister of Foreign Affairs.

 

Witnesses: Parliament of Ghana: Hon. Steve Akorli. National Assembly of the Republic of South Africa: Obed Bapela. Parliament of Botswana: Samson Moyo Guma. Parliament of Uganda: Augustine Ruzindana. Department of Foreign Affairs: Peter Harder, Deputy Minister; Doreen Steidle, Assistant Deputy Minister, Corporate Services; Gérald Cossette, Chief Executive Officer, Passport Office.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee met with representatives of a delegation of African Parliamentarians.
 

Hon. Steve Akorli, Augustine Ruzindana, Obed Bapela and Samson Moyo Guma made statements and answered questions.

 

At 4:34 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:38 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
Pursuant to Order made Tuesday, April 4, 2006, the Committee resumed consideration of the Main Estimates 2006-2007: Votes 1, 5, 10, 30, 35, L40, L45, L50, 55 and 60 under FOREIGN AFFAIRS AND INTERNATIONAL TRADE referred to the Committee on Tuesday, April 25, 2006.
 

The Minister made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 5:23 p.m., Bernard Patry took the Chair.

At 5:25 p.m., Kevin Sorenson took the Chair.

 

At 5:34 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
