The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development met in a televised session at 3:35 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Kevin Sorenson, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Diane Bourgeois, Bill Casey, Peter Goldring, Hon. Keith Martin, Deepak Obhrai, Bernard Patry, Kevin Sorenson, Peter Van Loan and Hon. Bryon Wilfert.

 

Acting Members present: Vivian Barbot for Francine Lalonde, Paul Dewar for Alexa McDonough, Hon. John Godfrey for Hon. Albina Guarnieri and Caroline St-Hilaire for Diane Bourgeois.

 

Associate Members present: Ted Menzies.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Gerald Schmitz, Principal; James Lee, Analyst.

 

Appearing: Hon. Josée Verner, Minister of International Cooperation.

 

Witnesses: Canadian International Development Agency: Robert Greenhill, President; Diane Vincent, Executive Vice-President; Marc St-Laurent, Director, Resource Management, Human Resources and Corporate Services Branch. Elections Canada: Jean-Pierre Kingsley, Chief Electoral Officer; Diane R. Davidson, Deputy Chief Electoral Officer and Chief Legal Counsel.

 
Pursuant to Order made Tuesday, April 4, 2006, the Committee commenced consideration of the Main Estimates 2006-2007: Votes 1, 5, 10, 30, 35, L40, L45, L50, 55 and 60 under Foreign Affairs and International Trade referred to the Committee on Tuesday, April 25, 2006.
 

The Minister made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 4:36 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:40 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on May 10, 2006, the Committee resumed its study on Democratic Development.
 

Mr. Kingsley made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 5:36 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
