The Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans Affairs met in a televised session at 3:31 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C Centre Block, the Vice-Chair, Janko Peric, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Claude Bachand, Murray Calder, Rick Casson, Cheryl Gallant, Jay Hill, John O'Reilly, Janko Peric and Hon. David Price.

 

Acting Members present: Gilles-A. Perron for Louis Plamondon.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Michel Rossignol, Analyst.

 

Appearing: Hon. John McCallum, Minister of Veterans Affairs.

 

Witnesses: Department of Veterans Affairs: Jack Stagg, Deputy Minister; Brian Ferguson, Assistant Deputy Minister, Veterans Services; Keith Hillier, Assistant Deputy Minister, Corporate Services; Robert Mercer, Executive Director, Public Affairs Branch. Veterans Review & Appeal Board: Victor Marchand, Chair. John O'Reilly, M.P., Assistant to the Minister of Veterans Affairs.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 81(4), the Committee commenced consideration of the Main Estimates 2004-2005: Votes 1, 5, 10 and 15 under Veterans Affairs referred to the Committee on Tuesday, February 24, 2004.
 

The Minister made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee proceeded to a briefing session on the preparations for the celebration of the 60th anniversary of D-Day.
 

John O'Reilly, M.P., Assistant to the Minister, made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 5:18 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
