The Standing Committee on Transport met at 3:32 p.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Joe Comuzzi, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Larry Bagnell, John Cannis, Joe Comuzzi, Bev Desjarlais, Roger Gallaway, Jim Gouk, Ovid Jackson, Stan Keyes, Mario Laframboise, James Moore, Marcel Proulx and Lynne Yelich.

Acting Members present: Stan Dromisky for Liza Frulla and Pauline Picard for Robert Lanctôt.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament:  John Christopher, Principal Analyst.

Appearing: From the House of Commons: Hon. David Collenette, Minister of Transport.

Witnesses: From the Department of Transport: Kristine Burr, Assistant Deputy Minister, Policy Group; Helena Borges, Executive Director, Rail Policy.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), study of the mandate, management and operation of Via Rail Canada Inc.

Minister Collenette made an opening statement and, with Helena Borges answered questions.

At 5:00 p.m., Joe Volpe took the Chair.

At 5:06 p.m., Joe Comuzzi resumed on the Chair.

At 5:49 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
