Meeting No. 30

Tuesday, May 13, 2003

The Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met in a televised session at 4:12 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Judi Longfield, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Peter Adams, Eugène Bellemare, John Finlay, Peter Goldring, Jim Gouk, Monique Guay, Judi Longfield, Gurbax Malhi, Larry Spencer and Diane St-Jacques.

Other Member present: Guy St-Julien.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Chantal Collin and Kevin Kerr, Research Officers.

Appearing: From the House of Commons: Hon. Claudette Bradshaw, Minister of Labour; Hon. Ethel Blondin-Andrew, Secretary of State (Children and Youth).

Witnesses: From the Department of Human Resources Development: Phil Jensen, Assistant Deputy Minister, Employment Programs Branch; Warren Edmondson, Assistant Deputy Minister, Labour; John McKennirey, Assistant Deputy Minister, National Secretariat on Homelesness; Guy Tremblay, Director General, Financial Services.

The Committee resumed consideration of its Order of Reference dated Wednesday, February 26, 2003, relating to the Main Estimates for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2004.

The Committee resumed consideration of Votes 1 & 5 under Human Resources Development.

The Ministers made opening statements and answered questions.

At 5:34 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
