Meeting No. 25

Tuesday, March 25, 2003

The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met in a televised session at 9:05 a.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Bernard Patry, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Stéphane Bergeron, Murray Calder, Aileen Carroll, Bill Casey, Irwin Cotler, Stockwell Day, Hon. Art Eggleton, Mark Eyking, André Harvey, Francine Lalonde, Hon. Diane Marleau, Keith Martin, Alexa McDonough, Bernard Patry, Karen Redman.

Acting Member present:  Karen Kraft Sloan for John Harvard.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch, Library of Parliament: Gerald Schmitz and James Lee, Research Officers.

Appearing:  Hon. Bill Graham, Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Witnesses:  From the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade:  Dan Costello, Executive Assistant to the Minister, Nathalie Brender, Policy Advisor to the Minister. From Concordia University:  Peter Stoett, Professor of Political Science. From Carleton University: Andrew Cohen, Professor, School of Journalism and Communication.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed consideration of a Dialogue on Foreign Policy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs (See Minutes of Proceedings of Thursday, February 11, 2003, Meeting No. 17).

The Minister made a statement and answered questions.

At 10:00 the sitting was suspended.

At 10:10 the sitting resumed.

Peter Stoett and Andrew Cohen made statements and answered questions.

At 11:45 the Committee proceeded to discuss its future business.

It was agreed, -- That further to the Order of March 20, 2003 concerning travel with regard to the study of relations with the Muslim World that Morocco be the Muslim country to be visited.

At 11:48 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
