ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

The Committee's study on a topic as complex as the evolving role of the Federal government in support of culture in Canada was possible because of the co-operation of many individuals and organizations. The Committee is indebted to the hundreds of individuals who appeared before the Committee or submitted briefs. The quality of the material was impressive. It is the Committee's hope that this report addresses the issues raised by the witnesses and sets forth a vision for the federal government in its support of culture.

Members first acknowledge the contribution of Mr. Normand Radford, the Clerk of the Committee, whose dedication, planning and management skills allowed the Committee to meet its objectives in an effective and efficient manner.

The Committee acknowledges the dedication, professionalism and collegiality of its Research Team. Mr. Joseph Jackson of the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament directed the drafting of the report. The expertise of Mr. Gaston Blais, Ms. Wanda Noel, Mr. David Black and Mr. Kevin Burns in their respective fields was indispensable to the Committee in the drafting of this Report. Mr. Ed Matheson and Mr. Louis Majeau edited the report in English and French, respectively. As well, this report would not have been possible without the many hours of work by the Publication Services of the House of Commons and the Translation Bureau.

The Committee also acknowledges the contribution of Ms. Guyanne Desforges, Committee Clerk, and Ms. Karen Thriepland, Administrative Officer, for their assistance in the Western Tour of the Committee's hearings and of Ms. Julie Danis, Administrative Assistant, for her devotion to the Committee and keen sense of organization.

In closing, the Committee wishes to acknowledge the active participation of the Honourable Member from Rimouski-Mitis, Qc., Mme. Suzanne Tremblay. Although Mme. Tremblay was unable to participate in the drafting of the report because of ill health, Members felt her passion in her absence.
