Pursuant to the order of reference of Wednesday, February 7, 2024, the committee resumed consideration of Bill C-332, An Act to amend the Criminal Code (controlling or coercive conduct).

Jennifer Koshan, Pamela Cross, Karine Barrette and Louise Riendeau made statements and answered questions.

Motion

Kerry-Lynne D. Findlay moved, — That the committee call on the Liberal government to ensure that Robert Pickton spends the rest of his life in prison and prevent any re-traumatization of the families of his victims through unnecessary parole hearings, and that this be reported to the House.

Debate arose thereon.

Amendment

James Maloney moved, — That the motion be amended by deleting the word “Liberal” before the word “government”, and by deleting the words “and that this be reported to the House.” .

The question was put on the amendment of James Maloney and it was agreed to on the following recorded division:

The motion, as amended, read as follows:

That the committee call on the government to ensure that Robert Pickton spends the rest of his life in prison and prevent any re‑traumatization of the families of his victims through unnecessary parole hearings.
