Pursuant to Standing Order 106(2), the Clerk of the Committee proceeded to the election of a Vice-Chair.

On motion of Dan Ruimy, it was agreed, — That, Brigitte Sansoucy be elected Second Vice-Chair of the Committee.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

On motion of Yves Robillard, it was agreed, — That, notwithstanding the routine motion governing staff attending in camera proceedings, adopted by the Committee on Wednesday, February 17, 2016, an intern from the office of Yves Robillard, be permitted to attend the in camera portion of today's meeting.

It was agreed, — That, in relation to Bill C-243, An Act respecting the development of a national maternity assistance program strategy and amending the Employment Insurance Act (maternity benefits), the Committee meet to hear from witnesses for three (3) meetings, that on the first meeting, the Committee hear from departmental officials and the sponsor of the bill, and that one (1) meeting be dedicated to clause-by-clause consideration of the bill.

It was agreed, — That, in relation to Bill C-243, An Act respecting the development of a national maternity assistance program strategy and amending the Employment Insurance Act (maternity benefits), each party send a prioritized list of witnesses, including their contact information, to the Clerk of the Committee, no later than Thursday, March 23, 2017 at 5:00 p.m.

It was agreed, — That, in relation to the study of Bill C-243, An Act respecting the development of a national maternity assistance program strategy and amending the Employment Insurance Act (maternity benefits), the Committee hear from the sponsor of the bill for one (1) hour, followed by officials from the Department of Employment and Social Development for one (1) hour, on Thursday, March 23, 2017.

It was agreed, — That, in relation to the study of Bill C-243, An Act respecting the development of a national maternity assistance program strategy and amending the Employment Insurance Act (maternity benefits), the Committee hear from witnesses on Tuesday, April 4, 2017.

It was agreed, — That, in relation to the study of Bill C-243, An Act respecting the development of a national maternity assistance program strategy and amending the Employment Insurance Act (maternity benefits), the Committee hear from witnesses on Thursday, April 6, 2017.

It was agreed, — That, in relation to the study of the Main Estimates 2017-18, the Committee hear from the Minister of Families, Children and Social Development, the Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Labour, the Minister of Sports and Persons with Disabilities and officials, on Tuesday, April 11, 2017, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.

It was agreed, — That, in relation to the study of Bill C-243, An Act respecting the development of a national maternity assistance program strategy and amending the Employment Insurance Act (maternity benefits), the Committee proceed to the clause-by-clause study of the bill on Thursday, April 13, 2017.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Monday, June 13, 2016, the Committee resumed its study of poverty reduction strategies.

The Committee proceeded to give drafting instructions to the analysts for a report.

It was agreed, — That, members of the Committee submit their recommendations to the Clerk of the Committee, no later than Friday, March 31, 2017, end of day.

At 12:55 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
