Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, January 30, 2018, the Committee resumed its study of the current state of Department of Fisheries and Oceans' small craft harbours.

Sarah Shiels, Noel Facey, and Lucien LeBlanc, by videoconference from Wedgeport, Nova Scotia, made statements and answered questions.

Motion

Pat Finnigan moved, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee undertake a study on the impact of the rapid increase of the Striped Bass in the Miramichi River and the Gulf of St. Lawrence, and how and when reference points are determined which may trigger interventions on this and other predators affecting other species and marine life; that this study be comprised of no less than three meetings; and that the committee report its findings with recommendations back to the House.

At 4:32 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:36 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee undertake a study on the impact of the rapid increase of the Striped Bass in the Miramichi River and the Gulf of St. Lawrence, and how and when reference points are determined which may trigger interventions on this and other predators affecting other species and marine life; that this study be comprised of no less than three meetings; and that the committee report its findings with recommendations back to the House.

It was agreed, — That, in relation to the study of the regulation of West Coast fisheries, in collaboration with the Chair, the Clerk prepare a detailed budget for the Committee’s travel to site visits and informal meetings in Prince Rupert, British Columbia, and Nanaimo, British Columbia, and public hearings in Vancouver, British Columbia.

It was agreed, — That, in relation to the study of regulation of the West Coast fisheries, each party submit a list of suggested sites to visit in Prince Rupert, British Columbia, and Nanaimo, British Columbia, and suggested witnesses to invite to public hearings in Vancouver, British Columbia, including their contact information to the Clerk of the Committee no later than 5:00 p.m. on Friday, November 30, 2018.

At 4:52 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
