The Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights met at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 268, The Valour Building, the Chair, Mike Wallace, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Françoise Boivin, Sean Casey, Bob Dechert, Robert Goguen, Ève Péclet, Kyle Seeback, Mike Wallace and David Wilks.

 

Acting Members present: Guy Lauzon for Patrick Brown and Philip Toone for Pierre Jacob.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Lyne Casavant, Analyst; Dominique Valiquet, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of Justice: Mr. Jean-Charles Bélanger, Deputy Chief Legislative Counsel, Legislation Section; Claudette Rondeau, Special Advisor and Legislative Counsel, Office of the Chief Legislative Counsel; Julie Ladouceur, Legislative Counsel, Legislation Section .

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

The Chair presented the Fourth Report from the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure. The Report was concurred in and read as follows:

  1. That the Committee undertake a study on the Proposals for a Miscellaneous Statute Law Amendment Act, 2014, on Tuesday, October 7, 2014.
  2. That the Committee invite the Minister to appear regarding Bill C-32, An Act to enact the Canadian Victims Bill of Rights and to amend certain Acts, on Thursday, October 9, 2014.
 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, October 7, 2014, the Committee commenced its study of the Proposals for a Miscellaneous Statute Law Amendment Act, 2014.
 

Jean-Charles Bélanger made a statement and, with Claudette Rondeau and Julie Ladouceur, answered questions.

 

At 5:30 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
