The Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology met at 11:29 a.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, David Sweet, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: John Carmichael, Joe Daniel, Cheryl Gallant, Hon. Mike Lake, Peggy Nash, Annick Papillon, Hon. Judy Sgro, David Sweet and Mark Warawa.

 

Acting Members present: Charmaine Borg for Brian Masse.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Mathieu Frigon, Analyst; Dara Lithwick, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Bar Association: Jean Nelson, Honourary Executive Member, National Privacy and Access Law Section; Suzanne Morin, Executive Member, National Privacy and Access Law Section. Samuelson-Glushko Canadian Internet Policy and Public Interest Clinic: Tamir Israel, Staff Lawyer. Public Interest Advocacy Centre: John Lawford, Executive Director and General Counsel.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Monday, October 20, 2014, and the motion adopted on Tuesday, February 3, 2015, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill S-4, An Act to amend the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act and to make a consequential amendment to another Act.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

At 12:11 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:12 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That a proposed budget in the amount of $25,000, for the study of Bill S-4, An Act to amend the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act and to make a consequential amendment to another Act, be adopted.

 

At 12:13 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
