The Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met at 11:39 a.m. this day, in Room C-120, 1 Wellington Street, the Chair, Rodney Weston, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Mike Allen, Raynald Blais, Blaine Calkins, Rodger Cuzner, Fin Donnelly, Randy Kamp, Hon. Lawrence MacAulay, Joyce Murray, Robert Sopuck and Rodney Weston.

 

Acting Members present: Louis Plamondon for Yvon Lévesque.

 

Associate Members present: Greg Kerr.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: François Côté, Analyst; Kristen E. Courtney, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Coast Guard: Marc Grégoire, Commissioner, Fisheries and Oceans Canada; Claude Langis, Fleet Regional Director, Quebec region, Fisheries and Oceans Canada.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, November 25, 2010, the Committee commenced its study of leasing of the Amundsen Vessel.
 

Marc Grégoire made a statement and, with Claude Langis, answered questions.

 

At 12:44 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:48 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Lawrence MacAulay gave notice of the following motion:

That, in light of the severely negative effects the Grey Seal and Harp Seal populations are having on fish stocks, the Committee, at its earliest opportunity, conducts a study on what positive effects a much more extensive seal hunt would have on fish stocks in the Gulf Region.

 

It was agreed, — That the Minister of Fisheries and Oceans be invited to appear before the Committee before March 22, 2011, her schedule permitting, in relation to the Supplementary Estimates (C) 2010-2011.

 

At 12:50 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
