The Chair presented the First Report from the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure which read as follows:
1. That the Committee proceed with the work plan outlined below in order of priority while considering modifications to the calendar might arise.
2. That the Committee receive a briefing on the British Columbia Supreme Court decision regarding the federal-provincial jurisdiction over aquaculture by hearing from two witnesses from the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO); Trevor Swerdfager, Director General, Aquaculture Management, and Paul Sprout, Regional Director General for the Pacific Region.
3. That the Committee receive a briefing on the Commission of Inquiry into the Decline of Sockeye Salmon in the Fraser River (Cohen Commission) and that this briefing be given anytime from mid to late March 2010.
4. That the Committee undertake a study of Eco-Certification in the Fisheries Sector and that, in the course of the study, the Committee hold 8 to 10 hearings in March, April and May 2010.
5. That the Committee study the 2010-2011 Main Estimates for Fisheries and Oceans Canada for three to four meetings in April 2010.
6. That the Committee study a bill to renew the Fisheries Act once it is referred to the Committee.
