The Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met by videoconference at 3:33 p.m. this day, in Room 752, 131 Queen Street, the Chair,Rodney Weston, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Mike Allen, Scott Andrews, Raynald Blais, Hon. Gerry Byrne, Blaine Calkins, Fin Donnelly, Randy Kamp, Yvon Lévesque, Hon. Lawrence MacAulay, Tilly O'Neill-Gordon, John Weston and Rodney Weston.

 

Acting Members present: Roger Gaudet for Yvon Lévesque.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: François Côté, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Wild Canadian Sablefish Ltd.: Ron MacDonald, President. Simon Fraser University: Lawrence Dill, Professor Emeritus, Department of Biological Sciences. Save Our Salmon Marine Conservation Foundation: Eric Hobson, President; Andrew Wright, Representative; Catherine Emrick, Senior Associate, Aquaculture Innovation, Tides Canada. Watershed Watch Salmon Society: Craig Orr, Executive Director.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Wednesday, April 28, 2010, the Committee resumed its study of aquaculture in the Pacific region.
 

Ron MacDonald made a statement and answered questions.

 

Lawrence Dill, by videoconference from Victoria, British Columbia, made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 4:28 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:35 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Eric Hobson made a statement and, with Andrew Wright, answered questions.

 

Craig Orr, by videoconference from Victoria, British Columbia, made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 5:35 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:36 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Committee's travel to the East Coast from May 24 to 28, 2010, take place according to the following itinerary:

Percé, Grande-Rivière, Sainte-Thérèse-de-Gaspé, Quebec; Deer Lake, Benoit's Cove, Newfoundland and Labrador; Sydney, Louisbourg, Nova Scotia; Moncton, New Brunswick.

 

At 5:55 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
