The Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met at 11:01 a.m. this day, in Room 536, Wellington Building, the Vice Chair, Raynald Blais, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Gérard Asselin, Raynald Blais, Rodger Cuzner, James Lunney, Hon. Lawrence MacAulay, Fabian Manning, Scott Simms and Peter Stoffer.

Acting Members present: Brian Jean for Randy Kamp.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: François Côté, Analyst ; Alan Nixon, Analyst.

Witnesses: BC Seafood Alliance: Christina Burridge, Executive Director; Mike Featherstone, Vice-President, President, Pacific Harvesters Association, Co-Owner, Oceans Master Foods; Chris Cue, Member, Senior Director of Fishing Operations, Canadian Fishing Company. Canadian Fisheries Working Group: Ron MacDonald, Chair, Executive Director, Canadian Sablefish Association; Robert Haché, Member, Executive Director, Association des crabiers acadiens, Nova Scotia; Phil Eidsvik, Member, Director, Salmon Gillnetters Association, Area E; Geoff Gould, Member, Executive Director, Area A Crab Association.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee commenced its study of the Funding of Scientific Research by the Department of Fisheries and Oceans.

Ron MacDonald and Christina Burridge made statements and, with Robert Haché, Phil Eidsvik, Geoff Gould, Mike Featherstone and Chris Cue, answered questions.

At 12:40 p.m., Lawrence MacAulay took the Chair.

At 12:45 p.m., Raynald Blais took the Chair.

At 12:57 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
