Meeting No. 66

Tuesday, June 19, 2007

The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development met in camera at 9:09 a.m. this day, in Room 701, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Kevin Sorenson, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Vivian Barbot, Hon. Mark Eyking, Peter Goldring, Wajid Khan, Alexa McDonough, Deepak Obhrai, Bernard Patry, Kevin Sorenson and Hon. Bryon Wilfert.

Acting Members present: Johanne Deschamps for Francine Lalonde, Hon. John McCallum for Hon. Ujjal Dosanjh and Brian Storseth for Bill Casey.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Gerald Schmitz, Principal . As an individual: Frédérique Kerr, Translator.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on May 10, 2006, the Committee resumed its study on Democratic Development.

It was agreed, — That the draft report be adopted as a Report to the House and that the Chair or his/her designate present it to the House by tabling it with the Clerk of the House by July 11, 2007.

It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 109, the Committee request that the Government table a comprehensive response to the report.

It was agreed, — That the Chair, Clerk and analyst be authorized to make such grammatical and editorial changes as may be necessary without changing the substance of the report.

It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(1)(a), the Committee authorize the printing of brief dissenting and / or supplementary opinions as appendices to this report immediately after the signature of the Chair, that the opinions be submitted electronically to the Clerk of the Committee, in both official languages on/before Wednesday July 4, 2007.

It was agreed, — To thank all those who, directly or indirectly, contributed to the Study on Democratic Development, such as our clerk, our research office, the console operators, the translators, the support team and the many others who assisted the Committee during this study.

At 10:02 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
