The Standing Committee on Finance met at 3:32 p.m. this day, in Room 536 Wellington Building, the Chair, Roy Cullen, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Roy Cullen, Rahim Jaffer, Sophia Leung, John McKay, Hon. Maria Minna, Massimo Pacetti, Gary Pillitteri, Alex Shepherd, Robert Thibault and Judy Wasylycia-Leis.

 

Acting Members present: Brian Masse for Judy Wasylycia-Leis and Gilles-A. Perron for Pierre Paquette.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: June Dewetering, Principal. Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure of the Standing Committee on Finance: Blayne Haggart.

 

Witnesses: Canada Revenue Agency: John Kowalski, Deputy Assistant Commissioner, Compliance Program Branch; David W. Miller, Assistant Commissioner, Assessment and Collections Branch; Alan Nymark, Commissioner, Canada Customs Revenue Agency; Stephen O'Connor, Deputy Assistant Commissioner, Finance and Administration Branch.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 81(4), the Committee commenced consideration of the Main Estimates 2004-2005: Votes 1 and 5 under Canada Customs and Revenue Agency referred to the Committee on Tuesday, February 24, 2004.
 

Alan Nymark made a statement and, with David Miller and John Kowalski, answered questions.

 

Judy Wasylycia-Leis moved, — That the Standing Committee on Finance request that the Government Whip remove the Paliamentary Secratary for Finance from membership on this Committee.

Debate arose thereon.

 

The question was put on the motion and it was negatived, by a show of hands: YEAS: 7; NAYS: 2.

 

At 4:57 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
