Thursday, March 15, 2001

The Standing Committee on Finance met at 11:19 a.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Maurizio Bevilacqua, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Carolyn Bennett, Maurizio Bevilacqua, Scott Brison, Ken Epp, John McCallum, Gary Pillitteri, and Pauline Picard.

Acting Member present: Peter Stoffer for Lorne Nystrom.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Blayne Haggart and Marc-André Pigeon, Researchers. From Committees and Associations Directorate: Pat Steenberg, Clerk.

Witness: From Canadian Banking Ombudsman Inc.: Michael R. Lauber, Ombudsman and CEO.

The Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-8, An Act to establish the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada and to amend certain Acts in relation to financial institutions (See Minutes of Proceedings, Thursday, March 1st, 2001, Meeting No. 2).

On Clause 1.

R. Michael Lauber made a statement and answered questions.

At 12:05 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
