The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met in a televised session at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Gordon Brown, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Gordon Brown, Hon. Stéphane Dion, Rick Dykstra, Jim Hillyer, Irene Mathyssen, Pierre Nantel, Kennedy Stewart, John Weston, Terence Young and David Yurdiga.

 

Acting Members present: Ray Boughen for Jim Hillyer.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Michael Dewing, Analyst; Marion Ménard, Analyst.

 

Appearing: Hon. Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages.

 

Witnesses: Department of Canadian Heritage: Patrick Borbey, Associate Deputy Minister; Graham Flack, Deputy Minister; Andrew Francis, Chief Financial Officer.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 81(5), the Committee commenced consideration of the Supplementary Estimates (B) 2014-15: Vote 1b under CANADA COUNCIL FOR THE ARTS, Votes 1b and 5b under CANADIAN HERITAGE, Vote 1b under CANADIAN MUSEUM OF HISTORY, Vote 1b under CANADIAN RADIO-TELEVISION AND TELECOMMUNICATIONS COMMISSION, Vote 1b under NATIONAL ARTS CENTRE CORPORATION, referred to the Committee on Wednesday, November 5, 2014.
 

The Chair called Vote 1b under CANADIAN COUNCIL FOR THA ARTS.

 

The Minister made a statement and, with Andrew Francis and Graham Flack, answered questions.

 

Pierre Nantel gave notice of the following motion:

That the Committee undertake a study on the effects of the budget cuts to CBC/Radio-Canada’s social, cultural, heritage and real estate assets and those related to the production of Canadian content, and that this televised study concludes before March 31, 2015, and that the Committee produce satisfactory recommendations.

 

At 4:33 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:36 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Andrew Francis, Graham Flack and Patrick Borbey answered questions.
