Pursuant to the order of reference of Tuesday, February 16, 2021, the committee resumed consideration of Bill C-10, An Act to amend the Broadcasting Act and to make related and consequential amendments to other Acts.

The Minister made a statement, and with Nathalie G. Drouin, answered questions.

At 2:05 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 2:13 p.m., the sitting resumed.

It was agreed, — That the committee publish on its website the Charter statement received by the Department of Justice on the topic of Bill C-10, An Act to amend the Broadcasting Act and to make related and consequential amendments to other Acts.

Motion

Kevin Waugh moved, — That another invitation be sent to the Minister of Justice and departmental officials to appear before the Committee either Tuesday, May 18, 2021 or Wednesday, May 19, 2021, following the appearance of the expert panel scheduled for Monday, May 17, 2021.

Amendment

Scott Aitchison moved, — That the motion be amended by replacing the words, “following the appearance of the expert panel scheduled for Monday, May 17, 2021” with the words “and that the Minister of Justice appear before the committee and testify, before the committee continue with clause-by-clause consideration of Bill C-10, An Act to amend the Broadcasting Act and to make related and consequential amendments to other Acts”.

At 2:54 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 2:56 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Debate resumed on the amendment of Scott Aitchison.

By unanimous consent, the amendment was withdrawn.

The question was put on the motion of Keven Waugh and it was agreed to.

At 3:07 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
