Pursuant to Standing Order 106(2), the Clerk of the Committee presided over the election of a Vice-Chair.

3:34 p.m., Stephen Fuhr, Chair of the Committee, took the Chair.

It was agreed, — That James Bezan be elected First Vice-Chair of the committee.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

Motion

James Bezan moved, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee immediately undertake a study of no less than four meetings on the proposed changes to the tax system outlined in the government’s consultations titled “Tax Planning Using Private Corporations” as publicly released on July 18, 2017, in order to assess the impact of the changes as they apply to small businesses that support, supply, and maintain the Canadian Armed Forces and Department of National Defence’s operations and equipment; that the findings be reported to the House; and that the government provide a response to the recommendations made by the committee.

The question was put on the motion and it was negatived, by a show of hands: YEAS: 3; NAYS: 6.

At 3:35 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 3:36 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

At 4:09 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
