Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans to Visit Coastal Communities in Newfoundland and Labrador, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Quebec and Prince Edward Island for its Study of Small Craft Harbours
Ottawa, June 08, 2018 -
During the week of June 11-15, 2018, members of the House of Commons Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans (the Committee) will visit coastal communities in Newfoundland and Labrador, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Quebec and Prince Edward Island to assess the current state of Fisheries and Oceans Canada’s small craft harbours in the region. As part of its study on small craft harbours, the Committee intends to examine emerging and recurring challenges faced by small craft harbours and coastal communities that rely on them.
Committee Chair Ms. Bernadette Jordan (South Shore — St. Margarets) will be joined by Mr. Pat Finnigan (Miramichi — Grand Lake), Mr. Ken McDonald (Avalon), Mr. Robert Morrissey (Egmont), Mr. Mel Arnold (North Okanagan — Shuswap), Mr. Larry Miller (Bruce — Grey — Owen Sound) and Mr. Fin Donnelly (Port Moody — Coquitlam).
Over the course of the week, the Committee will visit the following communities:
- St. John’s, Grace Harbour and Carbonear (Newfoundland and Labrador);
- Grosse-Ile, Cap-aux-Meules and Havre Aubert in Magdalen Islands (Quebec);
- Malpeque, Summerside and Hardy’s Channel (Prince Edward Island);
- Escuminac, Pointe Sapin, Loggiecroft, Neguac and Tabusintac (New Brunswick); and
- Barrington and Pubnico (Nova Scotia).
