Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, June 19, 2018, the Committee resumed its study of the system of shelters and transition houses serving women and children affected by violence against women and intimate partner violence.

Diane Beaulieu, Linda Lafantaisie Renaud, by videoconference from North Bay, Ontario, Joanne Baker, by videoconference from Vancouver, British Columbia, Boyd Thomas and Ann Decter made statements and answered questions.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

Motion

Rachael Harder moved, — That, given that Status of Women Canada is changing to the Department of Women and Gender Equality, the Standing Committee on the Status of Women invite the Minister to brief the Committee on her new mandate no later than Wednesday, December 5, 2018, and that this meeting be no less than one hour in length.

Debate arose thereon.

Pam Damoff moved, — That the debate be now adjourned.

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 6; NAYS: 2.
