Pursuant to Standing Order 106(4), the Committee commenced consideration of the request by four members of the Committee to hold a briefing with the Canadian Ambassador to China on the current state of Chinese-Canadian relations.

Motion

Erin O'Toole moved, — That the Committee meet on Friday, January 18, 2019 to receive a briefing for the Canadian Ambassador to China on the state of affairs and his efforts with respect to Canadians detained in China on security or administrative grounds.

Debate arose thereon.

Amendment

Anita Vandenbeld moved, — That the motion be amended by adding after the word “meet” the following: “in camera” and after the word "2019," the following: " at 10:00 a.m. for one hour " and after the words " Ambassador to China " the following " and Consular Officials from Global Affairs ".

The question was put on the amendment of Anita Vandenbeld and it was agreed to on the following recorded division:

YEAS: Greg Fergus, Mona Fortier, Raj Saini, Anita Vandenbeld, Borys Wrzesnewskyj — 5;

NAYS: Leona Alleslev, Hélène Laverdière, Tom Lukiwski, Erin O'Toole — 4.

The motion, as amended, read as follow:

That the Committee meet in camera on Friday, January 18, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. for one hour to receive a briefing for the Canadian Ambassador to China and Consular Officials from Global Affairs on the state of affairs and his efforts with respect to Canadians detained in China on security or administrative grounds.

The question was put on the motion, as amended, and it was agreed to on the following recorded division:

YEAS: Leona Alleslev, Greg Fergus, Mona Fortier, Hélène Laverdière, Tom Lukiwski, Erin O'Toole, Raj Saini, Anita Vandenbeld, Borys Wrzesnewskyj — 9;

NAYS: — 0.
