Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(h)(vi) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, November 1, 2016, the Committee resumed its study of the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

The witnesses made statements.

At 4:00 p.m, by unanimous consent and pursuant to Standing Order 115(5), it was agreed that the Committee continue to sit.

The Witnesses answered questions.

At 4:20 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:43 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Questioning of the witnesses resumed.

At 5:13 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:14 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

It was agreed, — That the Second Report from the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure, which read as follows, be concurred in:

Your Subcommittee met on Thursday, May 18, 2017 to consider the business of the Committee and agreed to make the following recommendations:

1. That three additional meetings be allocated to the study of the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) prior to the adjournment of the House in June; that one of these meetings concern youth-related privacy issues; and that one of these meetings concern the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

2. That the Committee undertake a study of Canadians’ privacy at airports and borders; and that this study include the privacy of Canadians travelling in the United States.

ORDERED, — That, in relation to the access to information request received by the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat and communicated to the Committee on Thursday, May 25, 2017, to which documents related to the Committee’s proceedings are not responsive, the Committee instruct the clerk to authorize disclosure of said documents, with the understanding that they remain protected by parliamentary privilege.

ORDERED, — That, in relation to the access to information request received by the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat and communicated to the Committee on Thursday, May 25, 2017, the Committee instruct the clerk to not authorize disclosure of the Committee documents contained in the said request.

At 5:30 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
