Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, February 16, 2016, the Committee resumed its study of the media and local communities.

Motion

Pierre Nantel moved, — That the Committee invite Jean-Pierre Blais, Chairman of the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission to appear before the Committee within 30 days to discuss the CRTC's decisions concerning local television and their consequences, and the conditions of renewal of licences taking effect on September 1st, 2017, for television services of large English and French-language ownership groups.

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was negatived, by a show of hands: YEAS: 4; NAYS: 5.

At 3:51 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 3:51 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

ORDERED, — That the Chair write to the Chairperson and Chief Executive Officer of the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission asking him to share with the Committee the reasoning behind the cutting of the programming of national interest commitment (Canadian drama) from 10% to 5%, and that he be asked to reply by Friday, May 26, 2017.

The Committee resumed consideration of a draft report.

At 4:44 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:56 p.m., the sitting resumed.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

It was agreed, — That the Committee hear the Minister of Canadian Heritage concerning the Main Estimates 2017-18 on Tuesday, May 30, 2017, from 8:45 to 9:45 a.m.

It was agreed, — That the Committee do now adjourn.

At 5:26 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
