Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motions adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, December 6, 2016, and Thursday, October 26, 2017, the Committee resumed its study of climate change and water and soil conservation issues.

Clyde Graham and Doyle Wieber made statements and answered questions.

John Barlow gave notice of the following motion:

That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food undertake a study of the Canada Food Guide and hear specifically from agriculture and agri-food stakeholders; and that the Committee report its findings to the House prior to the release of Part 1 of the new dietary guidance policy report.

At 4:26 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:31 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Louis Gauthier, by videoconference from Quebec, Quebec, Marc Laflèche and Emilia Craiovan made statements and answered questions.

At 5:15 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:18 p.m., the sitting resumed.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

It was agreed, — That in relation to the study of climate change and water and soil conservation issues, each party send their proposed recommendations to the Clerk of the Committee no later than Wednesday, February 28, 2018.

On motion of Luc Berthold, it was agreed, — That in relation to the study of the role of food inspection agencies in the context of free trade agreements, the Committee invite representatives from the European Food Safety Authority, the Agence nationale de sécurité sanitaire de l'alimentation, de l'environnement et du travail (France), the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India, the Food and Agricultural Materials Inspection Center (Japan) and the United States Department of Agriculture Food Safety Inspection Service to appear before the Committee.

At 5:29 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
