Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Wednesday, June 1, 2016, the Committee resumed its study of Genetically Modified Animals for Human Consumption.

Ruth Salmon and Thibault Rehn made statements and answered questions.

At 9:43 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:49 a.m., the sitting resumed.

Motion

Bev Shipley moved, — That pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food conduct a pre-budget study on the effects that the recently-announced, Liberal Government carbon tax would have on the agriculture sector and producers; that this study be comprised of no less than four meetings to be held at the Committee’s earliest convenience; that departmental officials from Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada and Environment and Climate Change Canada be in attendance for at least one meeting; that the Committee report its findings and recommendations to the Minister of Agriculture no later than February 15, 2017.

Debate arose thereon.

The question was put on the motion and it was negatived on the following recorded division:

YEAS: David Anderson, Ruth Ellen Brosseau, Jacques Gourde, Bev Shipley — 4;

NAYS: Pierre Breton, Francis Drouin, Ali Ehsassi, Alaina Lockhart, Lloyd Longfield — 5.

At 10:46 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
