The Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security met at 8:46 a.m. this day, in Room 268, The Valour Building, the Chair, Daryl Kramp, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Diane Ablonczy, Rosane Doré Lefebvre, Hon. Wayne Easter, Ted Falk, Randall Garrison, Roxanne James, Daryl Kramp, Rick Norlock and LaVar Payne.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. John McCallum for Hon. Wayne Easter and Élaine Michaud for Jean Rousseau.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Tanya Dupuis, Analyst; Christine Morris, Analyst.

 

Wayne Easter moved, — That the committee urgently invite Suzanne Legault, Information Commissioner of Canada, Bob Paulson, Commissioner of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, and the Honourable Steven Blaney, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, to discuss the Special Report to Parliament by the Information Commissioner, tabled in Parliament on May 14, 2015, entitled An Investigation into an access to information request for the Long-gun Registry, and that the meeting be televised.

 

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was negatived on the following recorded division: YEAS: Rosane Doré Lefebvre, Wayne Easter, Randall Garrison, Élaine Michaud — 4; NAYS: Diane Ablonczy, Ted Falk, Roxanne James, Rick Norlock, LaVar Payne — 5.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Wednesday, May 6, 2015, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-637, An Act to amend the Criminal Code (firearms storage and transportation).
 

The Committee commenced its clause-by-clause study of the Bill.

 

Clause 1 carried.

 

The Title carried.

 

The Bill carried.

 

ORDERED, — That the Chair report the Bill to the House.

 

At 9:05 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:07 a.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee not meet for the remaining sitting days in June 2015.

 

At 9:10 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:10 a.m., the sitting resumed in public.

 

At 9:33 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
