The Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights met at 11:00 a.m. this day, in Room 268, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Mike Wallace, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Françoise Boivin, Patrick Brown, Bob Dechert, Robert Goguen, Pierre Jacob, Ève Péclet, Kyle Seeback, Mike Wallace and David Wilks.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Lawrence MacAulay for Sean Casey and Mark Warawa for Patrick Brown.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Sandra Gruescu, Analyst; Dominique Valiquet, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: As an individual: Gregory Gilhooly. Criminal Lawyers' Association: Michael Spratt, Member and Criminal Defence Counsel. Canadian Bar Association: Marian K. Brown, Executive Member, Criminal Justice Section; Gaylene Schellenberg, Staff Lawyer, Law Reform. Kids' Internet Safety Alliance - KINSA: David Butt, Counsel.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Monday, April 28, 2014, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-13, An Act to amend the Criminal Code, the Canada Evidence Act, the Competition Act and the Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters Act.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

Bob Dechert moved, — That the Committee instruct the Clerk to invite Facebook to appear before it at its meeting of Tuesday, June 3, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. regarding Bill C-13, An Act to amend the Criminal Code, the Canada Evidence Act, the Competition Act and the Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters Act.

 

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 9; NAYS: 0.

 

At 12:59 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
