The Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights met in a televised session at 10:59 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Mike Wallace, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Françoise Boivin, Patrick Brown, Sean Casey, Bob Dechert, Robert Goguen, Pierre Jacob, Ève Péclet, Kyle Seeback, Mike Wallace and David Wilks.

 

Acting Members present: Costas Menegakis for David Wilks.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Sandra Gruescu, Analyst.

 

Appearing: Hon. Peter Gordon MacKay, P.C., M.P., Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada.

 

Witnesses: Department of Justice: William F. Pursuant to Standing Order 81(4), the Committee commenced consideration of the Main Estimates 2014-15: Vote 1 under CANADIAN HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION, Vote 1 under CANADIAN HUMAN RIGHTS TRIBUNAL, Votes 1 and 5 under COMMISSIONER FOR FEDERAL JUDICIAL AFFAIRS, Vote 1 under COURTS ADMINISTRATION SERVICE, Votes 1 and 5 under JUSTICE, Vote 1 under OFFICE OF THE DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC PROSECUTIONS and Vote 1 under SUPREME COURT OF CANADA, referred to the Committee on Thursday, February 27, 2014.
 

The Chair called Vote 1 under CANADIAN HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION.

 

The Minister made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 11:25 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:11 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Brian J. Saunders, William F. Pentney, Carole Morency and Barbara Merriam answered questions.

 

At 1:01 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
