The Standing Committee on Health met at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 8-53, 131 Queen Street, the Chair, Ben Lobb, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Wladyslaw Lizon, Ben Lobb, Cathy McLeod, Christine Moore, David Wilks and Terence Young.

 

Acting Members present: Harold Albrecht for Lawrence Toet, Dennis Bevington for Matthew Kellway, John Carmichael for Lawrence Toet, Megan Anissa Leslie for Murray Rankin, Isabelle Morin for Matthew Kellway and Adam Vaughan for Hon. Hedy Fry.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Havi Echenberg, Analyst; Marlisa Tiedemann, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Alliance on Mental Illness and Mental Health: Fred Phelps, Chair, Public Affairs Committee. Canadian Psychiatric Association: Padraic Carr, President; Glenn Brimacombe, Chief Executive Officer. Mood Disorders Society of Canada: Dave Gallson, Associate National Executive Director. International Association of Fire Fighters: Scott Marks, Assistant to the General President, Canadian Operations. Tema Conter Memorial Trust: Vince Savoia, Executive Director. As an individual: Zul Merali, President and Chief Executive Officer, Royal’s Institute of Mental Health Research and The Canadian Depression Research and Intervention Network.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

By unanimous consent, Terence Young moved, — That the Committee advise the Clerk to accept a written document regarding our Safety Code 6 Study from Canadians for Safe Technology.

 

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 9; NAYS: 0.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, April 30, 2015, the Committee resumed its study of Mental Health in Canada.
 

Fred Phelps, Padraic Carr and Dave Gallson made statements and, with Glenn Brimacombe, answered questions.

 

At 4:31 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:35 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Scott Marks, Vince Savoia and Zul Merali made statements and, with Dave Gallson, answered questions.

 

At 5:32 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
