The Standing Committee on Health met in a televised session at 8:48 a.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Ben Lobb, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Eve Adams, Libby Davies, Claude Gravelle, Ben Lobb, James Lunney, Dany Morin, David Wilks and Terence Young.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Carolyn Bennett for Hon. Hedy Fry, Hon. Wayne Easter for Hon. Hedy Fry and David Sweet for Wladyslaw Lizon.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Karin Phillips, Analyst; Marlisa Tiedemann, Analyst.

 

Appearing: Hon. Rona Ambrose, Minister of Health.

 

Witnesses: Department of Health: Anne Lamar, Acting Assistant Deputy Minister, Health Products and Food Branch; David K. Lee, Director, Office of Legislative and Regulatory Modernization, Policy, Planning and International Affairs Directorate, Health Products and Food Branch; Supriya Sharma, Acting Associate Assistant Deputy Minister, Health Products and Food Branch.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Friday, May 30, 2014, the Committee commenced consideration of Bill C-17, An Act to amend the Food and Drugs Act.
 

The Hon. Rona Ambrose made a statement and, with Supriya Sharma, Anne Lamar and David K. Lee answered questions.

 

At 9:50 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:53 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 

The witnesses answered questions.

 

At 10:18 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:20 a.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 

At 10:20 a.m., by unanimous consent and pursuant to Standing Order 115(5), it was agreed that the Committee continue to sit.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee continue its study of Bill C-17 during its meeting of Thursday, June 10 and Thursday, June 12, 2014 for the purpose of hearing witness testimony; and that for the purpose of clause by clause consideration of Bill C-17, should the House be sitting on that day, this Committee meet on Monday, June 16, 2014 from 3:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

 

At 10:27 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
