The Standing Committee on Finance met at 8:46 a.m. this day, in Room 306, The Valour Building, the Chair, James Rajotte, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Mark Adler, Joyce Bateman, Hon. Scott Brison, Hon. Ron Cannan, Raymond Côté, Nathan Cullen, Pierre Dionne Labelle, James Rajotte, Andrew Saxton and Dave Van Kesteren.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Mark Mahabir, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: As an individual: John Curtis, Consultant, Adjunct Professor. AdvantageBC: Colin Hansen, President and Chief Executive Officer. Royal Bank of Canada: Bryan Osmar, Managing Director, Head of Market Infrastructure. China Construction Bank: Nianbei Sun, Principal officer and General Manager, Toronto Branch. City of London Corporation: Mark Boleat, Chairman, Policy and Resources Committee.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, February 03, 2015, the Committee resumed its study on the Canadian Renminbi Trading Centre.
 

John Curtis, Colin Hansen, Bryan Osmar, Nianbei Sun and Mark Boleat made statements and answered questions.

 

At 10:11 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:14 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Andrew Saxton moved, — That the Committee proceed to sit in camera.

 

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 5; NAYS: 4.

 

At 10:14 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:15 a.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 

At 10:43 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:45 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee proceed to sit in public.

Nathan Cullen moved, — That the Committee undertake a study of the impacts of the decline in the global price of oil on the Canadian economy, including impacts on the value of the Canadian dollar, energy and manufacturing sectors, and the labour and housing markets.

 

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 9; NAYS: 0.

 

At 10:49 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
