The Standing Committee on Finance met at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 268, La Promenade Building, the Vice-Chair, Peggy Nash, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Mark Adler, Gerald Keddy, Peggy Nash, Murray Rankin, Andrew Saxton and Dave Van Kesteren.

 

Acting Members present: Matthew Dubé for Guy Caron, Emmanuel Dubourg for Hon. Scott Brison, Chungsen Leung for Mark Adler and Rodney Weston for James Rajotte.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Mark Mahabir, Analyst; André Léonard, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of Employment and Social Development: David McGovern, Senior Assistant Deputy Minister, Strategic Policy and Research Branch; Philippe Massé, Senior Director, Economic Policy Directorate; John Atherton, Director General, Employment Programs and Partnerships. Statistics Canada: Alison Hale, Director, Labour Statistics; René Morissette, Assistant Director, Research, Social Analysis Division. Canadian Labour Congress: Amy Huziak, National Representative, Young Workers; Angella MacEwen, Senior Economist, Social and Economic Policy. Canadian Youth Business Foundation: Marsha Josephs, Director, Government Relations.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, October 29, 2013, the Committee commenced its study of Youth Employment in Canada.
 

David McGovern, Alison Hale, René Morissette, Amy Huziak and Marsha Josephs made statements and, with John Atheron, Angella MacEwen and Philippe Massé, answered questions.

 

At 5:32 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
