The Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development met at 8:47 a.m. this day, in Room 306, The Valour Building, the Chair, Harold Albrecht, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Harold Albrecht, Stella Ambler, Colin Carrie, François Choquette, Megan Anissa Leslie, Hon. John McKay, Robert Sopuck, Lawrence Toet and Stephen Woodworth.

 

Acting Members present: Randy Hoback for Colin Carrie and Christine Moore for Dennis Bevington.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Penny Becklumb, Analyst; Tim Williams, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Office of the Commissioner of the Environment and Sustainable Development: Julie Gelfand, Commissioner; James McKenzie, Principal. Department of the Environment: Robert McLean, Executive Director, Canadian Wildlife Service, Environmental Stewardship Branch; Kevin J. Cash, Director General, Wildlife and Landscape Science, Science and Technology Branch.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, February 19, 2015, the Committee commenced its study of licensed hunting and trapping in Canada.
 

Julie Gelfand and Robert McLean made statements and, with James McKenzie and Kevin J. Cash, answered questions.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 106(2), the Committee proceeded to the election of a Vice-Chair.
 

On motion of François Choquette, it was agreed, — That Megan Anissa Leslie be elected First Vice-Chair of the Committee.

 

At 10:23 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:26 a.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That a proposed budget in the amount of $31, 700, for the study of Licensed Hunting and Trapping in Canada, be adopted.

 

At 10:29 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
