The Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development met at 3:28 p.m. this day, in Room 306, The Valour Building, the Chair, Harold Albrecht, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Harold Albrecht, Dennis Bevington, Colin Carrie, François Choquette, Mylène Freeman, Hon. John McKay, Robert Sopuck, Lawrence Toet and Stephen Woodworth.

 

Acting Members present: Stella Ambler for Brian Storseth.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Penny Becklumb, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Port Hope Residents 4 Managing Waste Responsibly: Stan R. Blecher.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, May 8, 2014, the Committee resumed its study of the management of municipal solid waste and industrial materials.
 

The witness made a statement and answered questions.

 

Mylène Freeman gave notice of the following motions:

1. That the Standing Committee on the Environment and Sustainable Development invite the authors of the 2014 Fall Report of the Commissioner of the Environment and Sustainable Development to appear, no later than October 9, 2014, for a two hour-long meeting.

2. That the Standing Committee on the Environment and Sustainable Development invite officials from Environment Canada, the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency, the National Energy Board and the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission to appear, no later than October 22, 2014, for a two hour-long meeting.

 

At 4:29 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:34 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Standing Committee on the Environment and Sustainable Development invite to appear for a two-hour meeting on October 8, 2014, the authors of the 2014 Fall Report of the Commissioner of the Environment and Sustainable Development, to appear for the first hour of the meeting and officials from Environment Canada for the second hour of the meeting.

 

It was agreed, — That the Deputy Minister of the Environment, Michael Martin, be invited to appear before the Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development before November 7, 2014.

 

At 4:57 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
