The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met in a televised session at 4:36 p.m. this day, in Room C-110, 1 Wellington Street, the Vice-Chair, Lysane Blanchette-Lamothe, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Lysane Blanchette-Lamothe, Joe Daniel, Chungsen Leung, Hon. John McCallum, Costas Menegakis, Ted Opitz, Jasbir Sandhu, Devinder Shory and Rathika Sitsabaiesan.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Julie Béchard, Analyst; James Gauthier, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Ahmadiyya Muslim Community Canada: Asif Khan, National Secretary, Public Affairs; Imtiaz Ahmed, Regional Public Affairs Secretary and Missionary. Pre-PR Time Counts: Taisia Shcherbakova, Representative; Maria Smirnoff, Representative. As individuals: Elke Winter, Associate Professor of Sociology, Department of Sociology and Anthropology, University of Ottawa; Patti Tamara Lenard, Assistant Professor, Graduate School of Public and International Affairs, University of Ottawa. National Forum for Civic Action: Bikram Lamba, Chairman. As an individual: James Bissett.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, April 1, 2014, the Committee resumed its study of the subject matter of Bill C-24, An Act to amend the Citizenship Act and to make consequential amendments to other Acts.
 

Elke Winter, by videoconference from Paris, France, Asif Khan, Taisia Shcherbakova, Maria Smirnoff, James Bissett, Bikram Lamba and Patti Tamara Lenard made statements and answered questions.

 

At 5:32 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
