The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met at 3:29 p.m. this day, in Room 228, The Valour Building, the Chair, Gordon Brown, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Gordon Brown, Hon. Stéphane Dion, Rick Dykstra, Jim Hillyer, Pierre Nantel, Rathika Sitsabaiesan, Kennedy Stewart, John Weston, Terence Young and David Yurdiga.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Michael Dewing, Analyst; Marion Ménard, Analyst. House of Commons: Justin Vaive, Legislative Clerk.

 

Witnesses: Hon. Elizabeth Hubley, Senator. As an individual: Alexander George, Musician. Canadian Grand Masters Fiddling Association: Graham Sheppard, Vice-President. As an individual: Kelli Trottier, Musician.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Friday, November 28, 2014, the Committee commenced consideration of Bill S-218, An Act respecting National Fiddling Day.
 

Hon. Elizabeth Hubley, Graham Sheppard, Alexander George and Kelli Trottier, by videoconference from Halifax, Nova Scotia, made statements.

By unanimous consent and pursuant to Standing Order 115(5), it was agreed that the Committee continue to sit.

At 4:00 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:50 p.m., the sitting resumed.

The witnesses answered questions.

 

The Committee commenced its clause-by-clause study of the Bill.

 

Pursuant to Standing Order 75(1), consideration of the Preamble and Clause 1, Short Title, were postponed.

The Chair called Clause 2.

 

Clause 2 carried.

 

Clause 3 carried.

 

Clause 1, Short Title, carried.

 

The Preamble carried.

 

The Title carried.

 

The Bill carried.

 

ORDERED, — That the Chair report the Bill to the House.

 

At 5:13 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
