The Standing Committee on Veterans Affairs met at 8:47 a.m. this day, in Room 112-N, Centre Block, the Chair, Royal Galipeau, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Sylvain Chicoine, Royal Galipeau, Hon. Laurie Hawn, Bryan Hayes, Pierre Lemieux, Wladyslaw Lizon, Ted Opitz, John Rafferty and Frank Valeriote.

 

Acting Members present: Ray Boughen for Bryan Hayes and Marc-André Morin for Peter Stoffer.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Isabelle Lafontaine-Émond, Analyst; Jean-Rodrigue Paré, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of Veterans Affairs: Bernard Butler, Associate Assistant Deputy Minister, Policy, Communications and Commemoration; Michel D. Doiron, Assistant Deputy Minister, Service Delivery. National Council of Veteran Associations in Canada: Brian Forbes, Chairman. Office of the Veterans Ombudsman: Guy Parent, Veterans Ombudsman; Sharon Squire, Deputy Ombudsman, Executive Director, Operations.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, May 14, 2015, the Committee commenced its study of the subject matter of Division 17 of Part 3 of Bill C-59, An Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on April 21, 2015 and other measures.
 

Michel D. Doiron made a statement and, with Bernard Butler, answered questions.

 

At 9:44 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:49 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 

At 9:49 a.m., Frank Valeriote took the Chair.

 

At 10:00 a.m., Royal Galipeau took the Chair.

 

Guy Parent and Brian Forbes made statements and answered questions.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

On motion of Pierre Lemieux, it was agreed, — That the Committee meet on Wednesday, May 27, 2015, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. to study the subject matter of Division 17 of Part 3 of Bill C-59, An Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on April 21, 2015 and other measures.

 

At 10:48 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
