The Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security met in camera at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Kevin Sorenson, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Jay Aspin, Rosane Doré Lefebvre, Randall Garrison, Candice Hoeppner, Ryan Leef, Rick Norlock, Brent Rathgeber, Jean Rousseau, Francis Scarpaleggia, Kevin Sorenson and Wai Young.

 

Acting Members present: Françoise Boivin for John Rafferty.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Tanya Dupuis, Analyst; Christine Morris, Analyst.

 

Appearing: Hon. Vic Toews, Minister of Public Safety.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Committee hear from the Minister of Public Safety as soon as possible to study the recently tabled proposed Firearms Regulations and that the Committee report the regulations back to the House as soon as possible.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, January 31, 2012, the Committee resumed its study of electronic monitoring.
 

The Committee resumed consideration of a draft report.

 

It was agreed, — That the draft report, as amended, be adopted.

 

It was agreed, — That the report be entitled: "A Study into the Electronic Monitoring in the Correctional and Immigration Settings".

 

It was agreed, — That the Chair, Clerk and analysts be authorized to make such grammatical and editorial changes as may be necessary without changing the substance of the report.

 

It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 109, the Committee request that the Government table a comprehensive response to the report.

 

It was agreed, — That the Chair present the report to the House.

 

At 4:05 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:30 p.m., the sitting resumed in public.

 
Pursuant to subsection 118(3) of the Firearms Act and the motion adopted Tuesday, June 19, 2012, the Committee commenced consideration of the Proposed Firearms Information Regulations (Non-restricted Firearms), referred to the Committee on Wednesday, June 13, 2012.
 

The Minister made a statement and answered questions.

 

Candice Hoeppner moved, — That the Committee report the proposed regulations back to the House as per Section 118 of the Firearms Act.

 

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 6; NAYS: 4.

 

At 5:33 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
