The Subcommittee on International Human Rights of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development met at 1:06 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Scott Reid, presiding.

 

Members of the Subcommittee present: Nina Grewal, Russ Hiebert, Wayne Marston, Scott Reid and David Sweet.

 

Acting Members present: Scott Andrews for Hon. Irwin Cotler and Marie-Claude Morin for Ève Péclet.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Erin Shaw, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Amnesty International: Alex Neve, Secretary General.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Subcommittee on Thursday, November 3, 2011, the Subcommittee resumed its study on the persecution of the Copt community in Egypt.
 

Alex Neve made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 1:51 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 1:52 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Subcommittee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Subcommittee business.
 

It was agreed, — That in relation to the study of the situation in Camp Ashraf, the proposed budget in the amount of $ 4, 950, be adopted and that the Chair present the said budget to the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development.

 

It was agreed, — That the Chair write to Chitranganee Wagiswara, High Commissionner of Sri Lanka to Canada and invite her to appear before the Subcommittee in a public meeting.

 

It was agreed, — That the Subcommittee hold an additional meeting on Monday, December 12, 2011, and that officials from the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade and the Department of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness Canada, be invited to appear in relation to its study on the situation in Camp Ashraf.

 

At 1:56 p.m., the Subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
