The Standing Committee on Government Operations and Estimates met at 8:49 a.m. this day, in Room C-120, 1 Wellington Street, the Chair, Pat Martin, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Denis Blanchette, Kelly Block, Peter Braid, Hon. Ron Cannan, Linda Duncan, Jacques Gourde, Jean-François Larose, Pat Martin, Hon. John McCallum, Costas Menegakis, Bernard Trottier and Mike Wallace.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Tina Lise LeGresley, Analyst; Lindsay McGlashan, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Union of Public Employees: Toby Sanger, Senior Economist. Canadian Construction Association: Michael Atkinson, President. Federation of Canadian Municipalities: Brock Carlton, Chief Executive Officer; Adam Thompson, Policy Advisor. Edmonton Public Schools: Sarah Hoffman, Board Chair; John Nicoll, Managing Director of Facilities; Edgar Schmidt, Superintendent of Schools.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order108(3)(c)(iv) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, September 27, 2012, the Committee resumed its study of effectiveness of public-private partnerships in the delivery of government services.
 

Sarah Hoffman, by videoconference from Edmonton, Alberta, Toby Sanger, Michael Atkinson and Brock Carlton, made statements and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 10:41 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:42 a.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the appearance of P. Thomas Jenkins, initially scheduled for Thursday, October 4, 2012, be postponed again until Thursday, November 8, 2012, from 8:45 a.m. to 9:45 a.m.

 

It was agreed, — That, notwithstanding any decision made prior, the Committee set aside the second hour of the meeting of Thursday, November 8, 2012, to consider the draft report on the review of the effectiveness of public-private partnerships in the delivery of government services.

 

It was agreed, — That, notwithstanding any decision made prior, the meeting in relation to the national shipbuilding procurement strategy be postponed until later this fall.

 

At 10:46 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
