The Standing Committee on National Defence met at 8:47 a.m. this day, in Room 362, East Block, the Chair, James Bezan, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Chris Alexander, James Bezan, Tarik Brahmi, Corneliu Chisu, David Christopherson, Cheryl Gallant, Matthew Kellway, Hon. John McKay, Christine Moore, Rick Norlock, Ted Opitz and Mark Strahl.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Melissa Radford, Analyst. House of Commons: Wayne Cole, Legislative Clerk.

 

Witnesses: Department of National Defence: Col Michael R. Gibson, Deputy Judge Advocate General, Military Justice, Office of the Judge Advocate General.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Friday, November 4, 2011, the Committee commenced consideration of Bill C-16, An Act to amend the National Defence Act (military judges).
 

Col Michael R. Gibson made a statement and answered questions.

 

The Committee commenced its clause-by-clause study of the Bill.

 

Pursuant to Standing Order 75(1), consideration of Clause 1 was postponed.

The Chair called Clause 2.

 
Christine Moore moved, — That Bill C-16, in Clause 2, be amended by replacing, in the French version, line 20 on page 1 with the following:

the word “Il” by the words “Le juge militaire.”

 

After debate, by unanimous consent, the amendment was withdrawn.

 

After further debate, Clause 2 carried.

 

The Short Title carried.

 

The Title carried.

 

The Bill carried.

 

ORDERED, — That the Chair report the Bill to the House.

 

At 9:32 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
