The Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights met at 11:03 a.m. this day, in Room 306, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Dave MacKenzie, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Françoise Boivin, Charmaine Borg, Hon. Irwin Cotler, Kerry-Lynne D. Findlay, Robert Goguen, Jack Harris, Pierre Jacob, Brian Jean, Dave MacKenzie, Brent Rathgeber, Kyle Seeback and Stephen Woodworth.

 

Acting Members present: Jasbir Sandhu for Hon. Irwin Cotler.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Dominique Valiquet, Analyst; Cynthia Kirkby, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: David Tilson, M.P., Dufferin—Caledon. Canadian Peacekeeping Veterans Association: John Eggenberger, Vice-President, Research. As an individual: Earl Page. Army Cadet League of Canada: Terence Whitty, Executive Director.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Thursday, February 2, 2012, the Committee commenced consideration of Bill C-217, An Act to amend the Criminal Code (mischief relating to war memorials).
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

At 12:28 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:34 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That in relation to the study of Bill C-310, An Act to amend the Criminal Code (trafficking in persons), the proposed budget in the amount of $ 3,300.00, be adopted.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 81(4), the Committee resumed consideration of the Main Estimates 2012-13: Votes 1, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35 and 50 under JUSTICE referred to the Committee on Tuesday, February 28, 2012.

Vote 50 in the amount of $21,721,013.00, less the amount of $5,430,253.25 granted in Interim Supply under JUSTICE, carried.
